After extensive research and hosting a series of Skills Panels to determine our “Top 10” 21st Century Skills, we developed modules that include two lessons per each skill. These lessons are complete with instructor lesson plans, PPT presentations, funny “what not to do” videos, video assessments, and handouts. The lessons were designed for postsecondary students, adult learners, clients at workforce development organizations, and current employees.
The strength of the lessons is built upon in-person delivery by instructors and collaborative interaction amongst learners. With all the available video content and the reflection questions embedded in the lessons, a hybrid format can be used. Host platforms can assist a combination of online/in-person instruction.
Many institutions use Moodle or Blackboard. In addition to having robust national platforms, within California the Canvas learning tool has been designated by the California Community Colleges Online Education Initiative as the primary choice for a campus-wide course management system.
You can also contact our partner, CreatorUp, to design a customized site for hosting the video content and online student/instructor interaction. Check out our demo site.
Another valuable online tool for the 21st Century Skills program is the ability to display student learning and digital badges in an electronic portfolio format.
Portfolium is an ePortfolio and career readiness network partnered with more than 150 colleges and universities to help connect learning with opportunity. Portfolium has grown into an international network that helps over 6 million students share a complete picture of their academic and professional potential. It provides a proven, turn-key platform for colleges and universities to enhance and streamline key objectives with a focus on outcomes, including: career readiness, skills planning, assessment and reflection, transfer success, co-curricular transcripts, retention, and employer engagement.
The “What Not to Do” videos are incorporated into our curriculum in Lesson 1 of each of our “Top 10” skills. They can also be used in person or through online platforms to generate discussion of the skills among instructors and students.
The Assessment Videos are incorporated into our curriculum in Lesson 2 of each of our “Top 10” skills. They can also be used in person or through online platforms to generate discussion of the skills among instructors and students.
